Luxor

Luxor is a city in Upper Egypt, situated on the east bank of the River Nile on the site of the ancient city of Thebes, and often referred to as the “world’s greatest open air museum”. The Temples of Karnak and Luxor are situated within the city of Luxor, and on the west back of the Nile you will find the Valley of the Kings and the valley of the Queens. You can also visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon while in Luxor.

The is the starting point for most of the Nile cruises, and the 7 night cruises finish back in Luxor, having travelled to Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan.

Aswan

Aswan stands on the east bank of the Nile, and is the site of the High Dam, which was built between 1960 and 1970 to provide electricity and irrigation for the whole of Egypt. Nearby quarries provided the granite for the obelisks and other monuments found throughout Egypt, including at the Pyramids in Cairo.

Shorter 3 and 4 night Nile cruises start and end in Aswan, doing the one way journey to or from Luxor in the north. While in Aswan you can visit the granite quarries, the High Dam, The temple of Philae and Elephantine Island.

Cairo

Cairo is the capital of Egypt, nicknamed the ‘city of a thousand minarets’, and is a highly populated and very busy city.

The world famous Egyptian Museum, home of the Tutankhamun exhibition, is situated in Cairo. Nearby you will find the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, as well as the Great Sphinx of Giza.

Sharm el Sheikh

Sharm el Sheikh is situated on the Sinai Peninsula, by the Red Sea. It is a popular resort both for lovers of beach holidays and also for the excellent scuba diving opportunities. Other things to do there include desert safaris, golf and a busy night life. It is possible to take a day trip by air to Cairo or Luxor, or a day trip by boat to Petra or Jerusalem. You can also take a diving course.

Hurghada

Once just a fishing village, Hurghada is now one of the most popular diving destinations on the Red Sea. Hurghada is a lively resort, with a good selection of luxurious hotels, boutiques and cafes, and is great for families. El Dahar is the old town, where you will find souks and local nightlife.

If you are looking for harbour and marina, head for Sakkula, which has a good assortment of bars, restaurants and nightclubs. The main resort centre is called El Memsha, and is where you will find the modern hotel developments. It is possible to take a day trip by coach or air to Cairo or by coach to Luxor. You can also book a diving course, and if you don’t already have your PADI certificate you can take a course to achieve it.

El Gouna

El Gouna, which is Arabic for ‘The Lagoon’, is a resort town and is situated north of Hurghada. It has been built on a series of islands and lagoons connected by canals.

Particularly attractive to couples and families with young children, it is good for water sports, kite flying and golf, and has a good selection of boutique shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.

Makadi Bay

Makadi Bay is on the western coast of the Red Sea, and is about 25km from Hurghada airport. The white sand beaches and amazing marine life in this natural bay make it an ideal destination for sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts alike.

Activities available include water sports, diving, snorkelling, golf and both horse and camel riding. You can take a day trip by coach to Luxor or by air to Cairo, and you can also book a diving course. A desert safari with a visit to a Bedouin camp is another popular excursion.
