‘Pharaohs and Pyramids’ tour on the Viking Ra

Viking River Cruises owns and operates the Viking Ra, and offers the 11 night ‘Pharaohs and Pyramids’ tour. You have 3 nights in Cairo, 7 nights on the Viking Ra and 1 final night in Cairo. You would fly from London (Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh often available) to Cairo, and transfer to the Cairo Ritz – Carlton Nile for 3 nights on a bed & breakfast basis, during which time you will be shown some of the amazing sights of Cairo. Following that you will be flown to Luxor, where you will board the Viking Ra, your home for the next 7 nights. You will enjoy full board accommodation, as well as wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, and you will also enjoy a programme of escorted excursions. At the end of the 7 night cruise you will fly back to Cairo for one night at the Cairo CityStars hotel (or similar), before flying home on day 12. Day 1 – Cairo Fly from the UK and transfer to your hotel
Day 2 – Cairo
Included excursion: Saqqara Step Pyramid tour, camel ride; Giza Pyramids & Sphinx
Day 3 – Cairo
Included excursion: Visit the Cairo Egyptian Museum & citadel. This is followed by free time, or you could book an optional tour to a colourful souk in Khan el-Khalili and a traditional Egyptian dinner at Al-Azhar Park.
Day 4 – Luxor
Included excursion: After flying from Cairo, you will visit Temples of Karnak and Luxor. Relax onboard the Viking Ra in the afternoon, or take an optional tour of the Luxor Library and Heritage Centre
Day 5 – Luxor
Included excursion: Visit the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut & Habu Temples. Subject to the weather, there could be an opportunity for an optional early-morning Hot Air Balloon ride. Enjoy scenic cruising along the Nile in the afternoon
Day 6 – Qena
Included excursion: Dendera Temple complex
Day 7 – Esna
Included excursion: Temple of Khnum
Day 8 – Aswan
Included excursion: Enjoy a Felucca ride on the Nile, and visit the spice market. Alternatively you could take an optional excursion to visit the amazing Abu Simbel temples, situated on the banks of Lake Nasser.
Day 9 – Aswan
Included excursion: Temple of Isis visit; Panoramic city tour featuring Aswan Dam; Nubian village, school and home-hosted visit; tour of Kom Ombo Temple
Day 10 – Edfu
Included excursion: Temple of Horus, and scenic cruising along the Nile
Day 11 – Luxor and Cairo enjoy some free time in Cairo in the afternoon and evening
Day 12 – Cairo transfer to the airport for your flight home

If you would like to extend your holiday, the following pre and post options can be added.

  • Jerusalem for 4 nights (pre-tour) – you have four nights in the first class King David Jerusalem hotel, or similar. The tour includes 8 meals, and 3 guided excursions, so you will visit the Temple Mount, Church of the Holy Sepulchre and Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, Jerusalem’s Old City, including the city wall and gates, and you will also see the Dead Sea Scrolls. Also included are your Tel Aviv to Cairo flight and all transfers between your hotel and airport
  • Jordan for 4 nights (post tour) – visit the lost city of Petra, Madaba, the Dead Sea and Amman. You will have 2 nights in the first class Petra Marriott hotel (or similar), 1 night in the first class Crowne Plaza Dead Sea (or similar) and 1 night in the first class Le Meridian Amman (or similar). Your tour includes 8 meals, three guided excursions, and also you Cairo to Amman flight and all resort transfers
